Do you leave your LCD TV in the camper?
I read a post about this over on www.popupportal.com and decided that it was worth looking into. I mean, if it's "liquid crystal display" it could freeze, right? Here's the best answer I found http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Would_an_LCD_TV_freeze_if_left_in_an_unheated_space.

Well I have left my tv in the 5'er ever since I bought it. I have never had a problem. Your link says that it can go down to -40 degrees, so I don't see a problem.

I had similar concerns.. so I read some of those same articles. I am leaving mine in the camper. From what I understand,.. a bigger concern is to not plug it in and turn it on when the TV is very cold. Most of us probably wouldn't be turning the TV on until spring.. but if you do.. you should let the unit get up to comfortable room temps for a few hours before you fire it up.

That's what I gathered too, Chuck. I just hope I remember it when the time comes. I'm going to put a label on mine to remind myself. It got me thinking though, of what else I may need to consider (in terms of technology) using differently than what instinct dictates. When I first read the post on PopupPortal.com, I got a little worried. Quite a few people chimed in with very logical sounding comments about why the TV would be ruined. Then I did my own research and found that it would have to get pretty darned cold for anything to be damaged.
Gregg, I only last year upgraded from the ancient CRT TV. I've got a whopping $40 in this flat screen, and it's a "Volunteer Campers Camping Club Heirloom", so I have to be careful with it.
That's what I'm calling the used stuff I buy from you guys now. Camping Club Heirlooms. It sounds so much better that way. Kind of like vintage clothing and estate jewelry, and pre-owned cars. All fancy words for "used".

Heirlooms? Did you get that term from your wife?

I'm in advertising, it's all in the presentation. (And yes, listening to my wife discuss antiques inspired me)

I had figured that came from listening to your wife. I doubt that the word would have the same meaning to your wife.Richard wrote:I'm in advertising, it's all in the presentation. (And yes, listening to my wife discuss antiques inspired me)

I thought about this thread while driving around today. We use the LCD screen on the built-in DVD player in the mini-van without letting it warm up to above freezing. It works just fine every time.

We take our bedroom tv with us in the camper so no it doesn't stay. My parents have a tv outside at their house under a covered porch and they leave it all year (rain and all) I'm shocked it still works!
