Camping In The Smokies RV Park
I am kinda looking for a camping spot in or very close to Gatlinburg, TN for the first week in December. In fact.. this might be a club event.. if anyone else wants to come. The Gatlinburg Christmas Parade is on Friday Dec 3rd. I have relatives who will be staying in a hotel in Gatlinburg from Wed-sunday that week.
Anyway.. this one is only about 3 miles from downtown G-Burg.. and the trolley even stops at the campground entrance. Below is the website.. and then a link to recent reviews of the campground. (on the page right below ADVENTURE BOUND) Anyone know anything about this place?
CG website: http://www.gatlinburg.com/campinginthesmokies/
REVIEWS: http://www.rvparkreviews.com/regions/Tennessee/Gatlinburg.html

Not sure where Camping in the Smokies is located, if it the one I saw when we camped at Smoky Bear last Nov. it was closed for the season. Adventure Bound was just down the road from Smokey Bear.

Its much closer to Gatlinburg.. the trolley stops at the front of the CG.. SMOKY BEAR and the others are about 10-12 miles out. They really aren't in GBurg.. this one is.coolbreeze1 wrote:Not sure where Camping in the Smokies is located.

The one I am talking about is in G-burg. It is just below the Food-City on the other side of the road.chuck wrote:Its much closer to Gatlinburg.. the trolley stops at the front of the CG.. If you were coming out of G-burg back towards Cosby, it would be the first cg on your right.

That might be it.. sounds about right. Maybe they close certain months out of the year.. Smoky Bear does.coolbreeze1 wrote:If you were coming out of G-burg back towards Cosby, it would be the first cg on your right.
Re: Camping In The Smokies RV Park
I guess the best thing is to just drive up there and check them out. You could also find out if they will be open that time of year.

If you leave Food City and turn left heading towards Cosby it is up on the right. It is past Twin Creek a bit. It sits level with 321 and you can see each campsite as you drive by.

I have some bolt cutters. What kind of lock do they use?

I didn't pay any attention to any of the information at that link. I just wanted you to see a picture of the campground. I know everyone has a different idea of what constitutes a place we would consider camping at and what we would steer clear of and a picture is worth 1000 words sometimes.

I checked the other one close to GBUrg.. TWIN CREEK.. they also close in the winter. Looks like I am outta luck for a december stay in GBurg.
Re: Camping In The Smokies RV Park
Hey Chuck. Outdoor Resorts is open year round. However, you would have to drive down 321 to catch a trolley. There are several locations including a "park and ride" at the City Hall.
Here is the website showing routes and their schedules (scroll down below map)

I thought about OUTDOOR RESORTS.. do you know anyhting about the CG?
Re: Camping In The Smokies RV Park
Chuck, it's in Pigeon Forge, but it's on the Gatlinburg side and pretty much out of MOST of the awful traffic - but I know Pine Mountain stays open year-round. It does have the indoor pool, so if your family comes down, they can use that, too.
They have individual shower rooms, so YOU control the heat and you can get them good and comfy, even in 30 degree weather.
Just a thought!

My family (from KY) has already reserved a hotel room in Gburg.. I was trying to get as close as I could to them.

Hey Chuck. Outdoor Resorts is up towards Cosby. However, it is not as far as Smoky Bear. There are some good reviews on rvparkreviews.com. I think I would request a site away from 321 though. There are alot of permanents here. However, alot of people seem to really like the campground. I found good reviews on rv.net/forum as well. Sounds like the lakeside sites are nice. It would be a fairly short traffic free drive down to catch the trolley.
Also, TL Directory gives them a 9.5 for facility, a 7.0 for restrooms and an 8.0 for appeal.

Re: Camping In The Smokies RV Park
did some checking.. OUTDOOR RESORTS is about 11-12 miles from my sisters hotel in GBurg.. Pine Mt is only about 8 miles.. I think I would rather be in Pigeon Forge than 12 miles out of GBurg. OUTDOOR RESORTS is out towards SMOKY BEAR and JELLYSTONE. There really isnt much out there. At least in PF I would have plenty of conveniences (groceries, restaurants, etc).
I have driven through PINE MT.. very nice. Not many trees.. but in December.. who needs shade.

Re: Camping In The Smokies RV Park
Chuck, if you do stay at Pine Mountain, you can drive about 3-4 miles and stop at the welcome center and catch the trolley there into Gatlinburg - that way you won't have to drive.
We have been there for Thanksgiving weekend for the last 2 years and traffic is BAD in Pigeon Forge, but not that bad in Gatlinburg. You could get around, at least enough to find a parking spot.
My favorite spot at Pine Mountain is #61. It's the furthest from the bath house, the office, and the pools, but it has the largest lot and is the most private one there is.
