Well, no new truck yet. I caught a serious state of sticker shock, wow!!! I actually may try to fix the truck and wait about a year to find a new one. Richard, are you still interested in coming down? Any day is fine (with the exception od saturday). The kids can play in the pool or on the swingset while we work (my wife said she would watch them). Just let me know.

Yes indeed. Let me get with my bride to learn her preference as to which day. Pvt Msg me with your phone and address.
Re: My "new" old pop up
I couldn't believe how easily the new canvas from Bear Creek went into Alan's POP-up. It fit perfectly, and even had a few design improvements over the original canvas. If I ever need a new canvas, that's where I'll be shopping.
Even the ancient air-conditioner worked when we wired it up. Alan's going to have a neat little PUP when he gets the last few cosmetic repairs done.

Huge thanks to Richard, he came and conquered. Just getting some things done on the pup has motivated me even further. Any time you need anything Richard, just give me a call and I will return the favor!!!

Re: My "new" old pop up
Are you kidding, you did me a favor with a good time. Thanks for the hospitality. The only bad thing was the heat, and your pool made all that go away! Be sure to use plenty of glue on those ceiling pannels.

Re: My "new" old pop up
Alan, you can find Pictures of how the cables are hooked to the door tracks of an old coleman pup here: http://www.popupportal.com/index.php?topic=25269.0 It looks pretty simple. If I find better ones I'll edit this post and add them here.
I don't see any reason why you couldn't lower those tracks a bit with spacers to allow use of the 1-inch grooved ceiling material you told me about. I think it will look cool with that ceiling.
You should be able to download an owner's manual here: http://www.colemantrailers.com/download-owners-manuals
Also, if you do decide to replace the mattress, you might want to consider getting an inflatable matress (with electric pump) and put a 2-inch memory foam over it. That way you would never have to worry abut clearance issues, and you would have a more comfy bed, without having to store the matress toppers someplace other than on the bunk ends. I assure you that the factory matresses bottom out with guys our size before morning, even with a couple of basic egg-crate toppers, the 2-inch memory foam on top of the original pads would make them comfy, but would likely not let the top come down all the way, and you'd end up squishing everyting to get it down.
Also, On the former aluminum walker now camp stove stand. It will be simple to make the shelf out of a piece of ventelated wire shelf material. The back rod would go into two holes drilled in the frame. Drill another hole at the same height in the fold-out legs and poke the ends of the front rod into it. I may have enough of the shelf material to make both of ours. I'll let you know how it works out once I get the walkers in hand.

Re: My "new" old pop up
I am pretty much finished with the pop-up so I thought I would look for anything elese I may want to fix before I close it. I kept looking at the ceiling and finally thought I just couldn't let it go like it was. How hard is it to put up a couple of sheets of luan to give it a nice crisp new look, anyway. Well I put up the new ceiling and things look great. So I pushed in the bunks and began lowering the roof when my wife asked, "is it supposed to look like that?" I turned around to see about a hundred screws poking up through the roof by about a half an inch. Looked like a bed of nails straight from a dungeon or something. I couldn't believe it and my wife couldn't quite laughing. I should have left the ceiling alone, no good deed goes unpunished I guess.

I hate it when that happens...
Have you decided on a fix yet? I may have some suggestions if you are looking for options.

Re: My "new" old pop up
I've used cool seal on a camper before. It's on the roofing isle at the homecenter. I've also used JBWeld on two small holes I put in Miss Danger.
You gotta take a pic of this. It's your first SPUT (Stupid Pop Up Trick).

Re: My "new" old pop up
Bivens, you know this is the kind of thing that takes YEARS to live down. I'm still laughing. At least you don't have to worry about the kids playing on top of the PUP.
Re: My "new" old pop up
Richard, I think Alan's pup deserves a name. It has earned one like "Ultimate Torture" or the "Dungeon Wagon".Richard wrote:Bivens, you know this is the kind of thing that takes YEARS to live down. I'm still laughing. At least you don't have to worry about the kids playing on top of the PUP.

LOL, how about "Money Pit", or "The Never Ending Project" or "The most expensive $500 camper in the world"
Or "Not as 'Screwed Up' as the roof would lead one to believe"
Re: My "new" old pop up
Richard wrote:No, wait, how about "Porcupine Pop-up"
That seems like the winner. however I do like "Screwed Up"
