Re: Do you winter Camp?
DUH?!?!?!? 'cause it's cold outside!
Seriously.. I enjoyed my time at Cove Lake.. it was pretty cool during the day.. and down right cold at night.. In a perfect world.. I would prefer camping in daytime temps in the 60s.. and nighttime lows in the upper 40s.

Craig, I would be interested in a trip sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas, maybe the weekend of Dec 5th or 12th. If not then maybe a weekend in Jan. Whatcha think?

Re: Do you winter Camp?
My daughters and I camped in Miss Danger last night. Between the refletix and the fleece blankets sealing off the bunk ends (we slept on the beds under the roof) the furnace was too much. We had to simply turn it off twice. It was getting too warm. It was indeed below freezing outside (28 I think). The thermostat is in the dinette bench under the table. Well, the warm air doesn't really get under there much. I set up my clamp on fans, one to circulate the heat around better up high, and one to blow the warm air under the dinette and sofa beds. Then the thermostat worked a bit better.
Then we noticed that the furnace fan was running, but it was getting colder. The propane ran out. Finally. It would have to happen late on a cold camp driveway night. I kicked on the heat strip in the rooftop AC, and while it doesn't put out the heat the furnace does, it warmed things up nicely. It would have been inadequate with the bunk end curtains open, and no refletix.
Now my reflectix is the 2-ft wide roll that I use around the bunk ends, so it didn't go all the way up the walls. I've decided to get the 4-ft refletix and make inserts for all the windows instead of space-blanket curtains. It will just be easier. I still plan to get space blanket curtains for the bunk end dividers though.

Glad to hear that you survived a night of camping in Miss Danger. I guess that it is time to run out and have your propane refilled.

Yep, it's on my "things to do today" list. I also have to do my Christmas shopping. I like last-minute shopping. It's so easy. Instead of figuring out what people want, you just take whatever is left. They can exchange it.
Actually, I've got to pick up a few last minute gift certificates and a couple of things for the kids to give to Mama.
I'm hoping for gift certificates to Wal Mart this year, so I can go down the camper and RV isles and actually buy something.

Re: Do you winter Camp?
I'm not quite sure this outing in "Camp Driveway" would qualify for one of the "Three campouts without a repair" trips to reach "Pop-up expert" status.

Re: Do you winter Camp?
It certainly doesn't Kral! I'm moving the thermostat for the furnace to a better location. Even if it counted, it wouldn't qualify.
Tim, I got my 20# Tank filled for $12.85 tax and all. It's a junky looking place on the main road (11E) between Johnson City and Bristol. It's between Piney Flats and Johnson City. They have a portable sign advertising the propane, but I think their main business is making and selling those "chainsaw art" bears. They have lots of them. (Yep, it's my kind of place!) I think it may have been a gas station many years ago. They also sell some swimming pool stuff, at least I think it's for sale. The guy that filled my tank was prompt and really nice. At that price I can use a lot of propane before I am broke.

Re: Do you winter Camp?
Alan, it's thin sliver insulation board. You get it at any big box home store like Lowes or Home Depot. It's wonderful stuff. Comes in rolls in different widths. It's about 1/4 inch thick and shiny. Lots of people put it under the mattress of the bunk ends too.
(I spend a lot of time at Lowes and Home Depot, they don't even seem to know they are PUP camper parts stores.)

Dave, I don't look at the Isle numbers anymore. It's with the House Insulation.KralCamper wrote:Richard wrote:

Re: Do you winter Camp?
17 degrees outside last night and Lily wanted to sleep in the camper and play chess. Down to 9 degrees tonight. That's a bit more winter than I'm gonna do in Camp Driveway when I have a heated home within two feet of the camper.
