Winter Camping
Any one like camping in the winter months? We like it on those warmer days. Just wondering.
Thanks

Re: Winter Camping
I grew up in hot steamy south Alabama, Winter camping has always been my favorite. No snakes, few bugs. I can put on a coat. I can only take off so much without getting arrested.

Re: Winter Camping
a few months ago.. I would have said I liked winter camping without hesitation. But I actually think I like "cool weather" camping better than "winter" camping. Several weeks ago at Cove Lake State Park it was a bit too cold. Nights inside the camper sleeping was no problem.. but day time highs only were in the 40s (at best).. and it was windy with a little rain. We had a good time, but at times it was not comfortable.
However.. I thought SMOKY NEAR a few weeks ago was near perfect. Setting around the campfire with evening temps in the low 50s/upper 40s was great. Day temps in the 60s is very good!

Agreed, Too much of anything is not plesant, bitter cold is not what I meant, just nice and cool. Which describes a lot of weekends in East Tennessee from late fall to early spring.

Re: Winter Camping
We do have many weekends.. even in January and February, that are nice enough to camp. I am sure I will probably venture out at least once or twice between now and spring. My little camper is winterized.. but it isn't that hard to fush the lines and re-do.. if I want to.
Cove Lake leaves the water on all winter.. (I think) and it's only about 20 minutes from home. I will probably go there this winter. I am pretty booked up til after New Years.. so maybe in January.

Re: Winter Camping
I not really a winter camper, I am so cold nature anyway, I would probable get sick. Then again I could just stay in the camper all weekend...NOT
Winter will be here in 20 days and I am hoping for snow...

As soon as I get Miss Danger's top to go up and down, I'm in for Cove Lake in the winter. I just found a new campground that I'm planning to check out. It's a mile out from Historic Jonesboro, TN and is owned by the city. It has full hookups and the rate is only $15 per night! It's called Persimmon Ridge Campground, and is across from the city owned golf course. If it's true, I may have a new quick and cheap camping place only 20 miles from home.

No more than 20 miles from home & not that far to the Home DepotRichard wrote:chuck wrote:We do have many weekends.. even in January and February, that are nice enough to camp. Yes those pre-cut wooden supports came in handy, but I don't think they were designed for any overnight occupancy

Finally closed up for the winter
The Clark Family Clubhouse is officially closed up, folded up, and locked down for the winter as of 5:35PM Eastern Time on February 26, 2010. I'm not going to open her back up until Spring, on March 20th. Or perhaps the Ides of March (Latin: Idus Martias, for those scholarly types like coolbreeze) on the 15th (Julius Caesar beware).
Re: Winter Camping
So the CFC is closed for the next 22 days.
