Last campout until spring
Well we had my last campout of the season until next spring and what a campout it was. We headed up to the lake with some friends of ours for one last time. The weather was beautiful fall weather, where the day was warm but just perfect for sitting next to the fire reading a book, letting the soft fall breeze gently blow across the water making you glad a little fire was going. The campground was empty except for one or two motorhome campers, the colors were just after its peak and make you feel wrapped up in golden hues of soft copper and burnished gold. We all just sat by the fire looking out over the lake to the hills of color, cows dotted here and there, huge flocks of blackbird flying together as a black moving cloud that danced across the sky taking wonderful shapes like schools of fish. For dinner we had a big crab boil in a pot we placed on rocks in the carmpfire…we had crab, potatoes, shrimp, andouie sausage, corn on the cob all seasoned with lousianna spices. When it was done we layed newspaper on the picnic table and poured it out and ate with our fingers..you couldnt have asked for anything better. I will always have this memory of friends and nature to look back on as I look foward to next years camping adventures. Here are a couple pictures of our feast

We do a "frogmore stew" that is pretty much the same, but with shrimp, potatoes, corn, polish sausage, onion, jalapenos and Old Bay.
Alan, we (my family) plan to do it one evening during the Pine Mountain trip and your family is welcome to join us. It won't be spicy hot since my mom, nor Elora can eat it if it's hot, so even your girls could eat it. My girls love it and if I ask what they want for supper, Frogmore is always their response.
If you want to join us, you can just bring along your fixin's and we will throw it into the pot. I would just buy enough, but with these ingredients, it's rather pricey!!!
We'll talk about it when you get there - we will probably do it Saturday night.
Anybody else that would like is also welcome to join us - I will bring a HUGE pot and a big pot. I have fed up to 50 with the HUGE pot!!

Wow Kim,
With that great description, I feel like I was there. If you ever write a book, put me down to buy a copy! If you haven't considered it, you should. Writing vivid description with such a ring of genuiness and reflected emotion is something most people cannot do. All you need is a cast of characters and a good plot.

Not just pictures, but pictures of good people with good food. I just keep looking, and looking, and looking.

Looks like you had a great time. The food looks GOOD...I never thought of doing something like that. You just cooked everything in one pot? For how long?
Does some of the food cook longer then others like the corn? I will need to do this on a cold camping trip.

I can envision an entire camping trip built around this meal. It would have to be a wooded area (a state park or something), chilly or blustery, and a roaring campfire. Following the feast we could retire to the fire with a hot cup of some of Dave's fine coffee brew. Now thats campin'

We have done that MANY times!! That was our Thanksgiving meal a few years ago when we were at the beach. We bought fresh shrimp from a boat, we caught our own crabs, then added our potatoes, corn and polish sausage. It was fabulous!!!
