Just got back from Hunting Island State Park outside of Beaufort, SC.  Beautiful state park on the Atlantic Ocean ... miles of sandy beaches (bikes, golf carts & pets allowed on the beach), some assume scenery, a light house to climb, and daily nature based activities for young and old. The sites adjacent to the beach were  close together, sized for tents and smaller campers. The loop we were on was about 500 feet from the beach and the sites were larger and a little more spread apart (our site was 50' x 80').  Saw campers in tents, tag alongs, 5'ers, and A's to C's .... best one we saw was a dumptruck with the dump bed removed and a trailer (with it's wheels removed) replacing the dump bed.  He had some serious looking steps going up to the "camper" door. Was embarassed to stand there and take a picture.

Here's a link to the park

We (the Hutchinson's) and the Conkin's (rconkin) and (kconkin) have reservations for July 18 - 26. The Conkin's have never been but we have been 15-20 times and LOVE it every time. Before the kids arrived, we would take off every school vacation, every Thanksgiving, every Christmas, spring break and whatever else we would take off and spend a few days walking the beach.

We have found many conch shells there as well as sand dollars, sharks teeth, and numerous other types of shells. We have crabbed in the marsh, fished at the pier and bike rode all over the island.

The kids have fed deer, built sand castles, rode rollerblades and bikes, blew bubbles, flew kites, and just did kid stuff. We have climbed the lighthouse, walked all the trails and cooked shrimp that was so fresh, it hadn't even got cold from the ice.

Chuck, I have lots of pics and will have them on my computer when we come to Natural Tunnel. If you look at Becky Lagow's facebook page, she has bunches.

Hunting Island State Park, Beaufort, SC Empty Spring Break 2015

Donna,

Made reservations for Hunting Island for next spring. Saw all of Becky's photos and got jealous... Smile This will be our first time so I can't wait. Booked spot 17 because of reading on tripadvisor about the coons and bugs not being as bad closest to the beach. Don't know if that was a good decision or not, guess have to wait and see....
Thanks for the pics....

robert, that is true, about the bugs and raccoons. When we go down in the spring, we usually get off at around 91 and 92. They are close to the beach, but far enough away that you don't get the ocean breeze that can be cold during that time of year. Rconkin ad family and us are going in July. We got close to the playground. we did not make air reservations in time to get close to the beach front. My favorite site is #64.
