Electric griddle cooking
On my last camping trip, of 2013.. my neighbors, Kim and Carolyn treated Peedie and me to breakfast. We had sunny side up eggs and crispy bacon.. pretty good. Carolyn ran an extension cord out to the picnic table and used an electric griddle to fry the food. I started thinking.
I am not much on cooking big meals while camping.. I pretty much stick to hamburgers and hot dogs on the campfire.. an occasional steak or maybe some kind of pie iron sandwiches. Simple, easy foods with minimal clean up. For breakfast I usually just fix a frozen Jimmy Dean breakfast biscuit or croissant in the microwave. But there's nothing like the smell of bacon or sausage frying. When you take a morning walk around the campground.. somebody always has breakfast going.. and it smells so good! But using the stove top.. frying foods inside the camper, isn't what I want to do. Not to mention.. washing a greasy frying pan.
So I am thinking about buying an electric griddle. The ones I have looked at seem pretty simple and inexpensive ( $20 - $40). And clean up seems easy too. Most are immersible when you remove the heating control. Anybody else use one? What are the pros and cons? What all do you make on your griddle?

Rita cooks eggs, bacon, sausage and french toast. I grilled a steak on it once and it was good. Clean up was easy.

We use one for breakfast and sometimes dinner. We have one we picked up at Wally world for less than $20 and it lives in the camper, it is one of the items that I would deem as necessary to have when camping. It's nice to use it outside to keep the inside of your camper from smelling (if you worry about that kind of thing) and nice to be able to run it off the extra 20 breaker from the power pedestals so you don't trip breakers trying to use it.

Before you break out the big $$$, go by a few yard sales and see if you can find one or the Salvation Army or Goodwill stores.
They are usually pretty easy to find a used one and as long as they heat up, they are good to go.

We use our electric griddle for breakfast while camping and it is easy to clean up. Think about what you would use it for and will you.

I use one at home for pancakes. Be sure to never use a metal spatula. It is also great for frying Spam in thin slices. Mine has spots that are a bit hotter than the others. No problem once I learned where they are. I have a griddle in the camper too, but it sits across a couple of the stove eyes. I also have an electric sandwich maker for pie iron cooking at home.

I agree. I also make chicken quesdaillas on my grill. Richard is so right about not using a metal spatula and hot spots.
