2014 Kick-Off Camp-Out April 25-27, 2014
PANTHER CREEK STATE PARK
Morristown, TN

We are planning to visit PANTHER CREEK STATE PARK for this event. Online reservations are not available, at the moment.. because of re-modeling and maintenance to parts of the campground. However.. I talked with a ranger today (1/16/14).. she told me that the upper portion of the CG should be open and available well before our April dates. The camp site work started in the upper section (sites 29-49 and 38-50) where we wanted to reserve.. so those sites should be ready in a few weeks. She is going to call me when the sites can be reserved.. and then we will have to reserve them by phone. Online reservations will not be open until May 25th. I'll let you all know the phone information as soon as I have it.

thanks Tim.. let us know what you find. I was thinking about calling them again this week and checking up on the progress. and see when we can start reserving.

Drove by the campground today and am worried they might not get thing completed in time. Right now the upperside of the campground has been completely torn out. The bathrooms at the top have been torn down, every site has been completely dug up and the water and power has been removed. From the looks of things they are changing the layout of the sites. I worry that they might not get finished depending on the weather we have been having.

Thanks Coolbreeze for update it sounds like the park is getting a big change. Anyone think about Natural Tunnel as plan B?

Natural Tunnel sounds fabulous for us.  We move in there on that Sunday, April 27 for our camphosting stint for the month of May.

Just testing the waters.. How do others feel about changing places? If we need to. Is Natural Tunnel too far? Give us your opinions.. PANTHER CREEK may still work.. But we need to be prepared, if it doesn't.

Well we've never been to Natural Tunnel, but if we can make the trip to Defeated Creek in March, I think we can probably make it as it looks to be the same distance from home for us. So sure, why not?

We would probably not be able to get sites together at NT.. but that might not matter.. We have been kinda spread out before. At NT the reservations are not site specific.

That is true, but if they are in the same campground, we will not be far away. It's only 50 yards from one end of the campground to the other and there are 4 sites in the middle of the circle. Those are our favorites.

If we do decide on NT, we DO need to be in the same campground because if not, that does make it kind of hard to visit. Several of us won't fit into Cove View Campground (we don't), but having grass and shade in April shouldn't be a problem. Lover's Leap would be great for us and we will try to get down there early enough to get site #13, which has lots of extra space. We will plan to take our big teepee so we have some cover if it decides to rain all weekend like it did last year. Someone with a smaller camper can pull straight in to site #14 and we would have a huge spot for the teepee.

We are good for Natural Tunnel. We haven't never been and with the trip being in April we should have a nice pick on the sites, right Donna?

Dar, it's according to how the weather is. If the weather is good, it may be pretty crowded.

I plan to go in on Thursday, as do several others. We will have a pretty good choice of sites. If I know you are on your way, I will go ahead and try to pick a site I think you would like and get your paperwork, if it's available for me.

Lover's Leap will be the campground that we will plan to be in, if that is where we plan to go.
