Re: roan mountian area
JB and Al I'm in for all three this summer. I especially want to camp at Rock Creek and throw my kids in that stream fed swimming pool. There is another campground in the Rock Creek area that has riding stables and hookups. I'll look up the name and post it here a bit later on. We drove through with the kids and they want to camp there too. Al, we may have to do the "Tent-Save" thing (that I complain about others doing) if you want to go to Roan Mountain. It's quite a drive for you, and tends to fill up in the summer.

About 2.5 hours or so for me.. but maybe a nice adventure. The older I get.. the less I wanna drive.
Re: roan mountian area
Its definately a haul for me too, but I think it would be a nice trip. You guys come up with a date and I will see if I can. Rock creek is one of those few TN state parks that you can actually make reservations at!!

Re: roan mountian area
Maybe I am looking at the wrong ROCK CREEK.. The CG I am looking at is part of the CHEROKEE NATIONAL FOREST.. not a state park.

re: roan mountain area
Let me try this again as my last post seemed to disappear.
I think rock creek would be a good weekend get away. Because it is about 5-10 dollars cheaper a night. They have elec. and water but the water is a community water spicket instead of one at every campsite. But my camper will hold enough water for the weekend.
We are thinking about taking a bigger trip for 4 or 5 nights to roan mountain over the 4th of July. We went last year and had a blast. They have a lot of activities for the family. They dug a mud pit and had tug of war, bicycle parade, and a lot of other things. All the contests they gave away free admissions to the pool so we all got in to the pool for free by the time we got our rewards.
Also will probably try to go to roan mountain again over Halloween. The campsites are half off and in return you buy candy to hand out to trick or treaters. We had a lot of fun walking the kids around and looking at all the other kids costumes. Word of advise though if you do this do not get on the bottom unless you want to spend big $$$$$$$$$ on candy it was a mad house down there probably 800 people or better not to bad up near the top maybe 100.
Will post when closer to these two holidays if we plan on going to see if anyone wants to join. But would defiantly want to try to get together at least one weekend. Would love to have someone that loves camping as much as i do to talk to and hopefully they have kids to keep mine busy a little.
