Camping-related Christmas Gifts
What are the camping-related Chirstmas Gifts on your list this year?
(I'm looking for ideas)

Re: Camping-related Christmas Gifts
This is pretty awful, but the ONLY thing on my list is a pasta machine!!
Usually, I just tell Butch to put me back some money to use at the after-Christmas sales, but I'm not even into that this year.
The girls were even pretty good this year and didn't ask Santa for too much.
So, to answer your question, I don't have any camping related gifts on my list. A few nights of paid camping at one of my favorite campgrounds would be a good gift if you want to get me something!!!

@ Donna: But you are already planning on hosting at one of your favorite sites.
@ Tim: I was thinking about for yourself, but either one would be interesting.
I'm hoping to get a yellow marker light for my pup to replace the one I broke. Not sure if the family will spend the $3.99 or so on me though. I'm generally on the naughty list. I may buy it myself, wrap it and put it under the tree.
I'm also scouring yard sales, or will be, for a small simple toaster oven for the PUP. I'm looking for something used in the $10 to $15 range. I may go as high as $20, but it would have to be at a weak moment. I want one because there are times when the dutch oven is just too much trouble. After baking biscuits inside Tim's gas oven, I'm a bit spoiled by the convenience of it.

Yes, $3.99 is a little expensive......Richard (Thu Dec 16, 2010 10:27 am) wrote:@ Donna: But you are already planning on hosting at one of your favorite sites.

Re: Camping-related Christmas Gifts
Tim, you can buy gravy that is already made in a can!!! I think it's about $1.29 at Walmart. Butch says that it's decent - I can't tell you from personal experience because I can't stand gravy!! It makes me sick just to look at it, but I do make it because the rest of my family loves it. Nasty stuff!
You just dump it out of the can and put it in the zapper and after about 1 minute, you got gravy with no muss, no fuss.

Re: Camping-related Christmas Gifts
since the thread has already taken the "gravy" route.. I will add my opinion. I love biscuits and gravy.. and have found a pretty easy way to fix gravy.
The packaged mixes are really good.. and usually always better than the canned stuff. A couple of food companys make them.. but I think the best is SM (Southeastern Mills) Old Fashioned Biscuit Gravy mix. they make a few different kinds (brown gravy, etc).. so make sure you get the "biscuit gravy" mix.
Pretty easy.. on the stove top.. just add the mix to boiling water. Sometimes I add half milk and half water just to make it a little richer. Depending on how long you stir and heat.. it can be thick or thin gravy. I usually add a little salt and pepper too.
There might even be microwave directions on the package.. not sure.
PS - you can usually find the gravy mixes in the same area as spices and chili mixes and such.. at any grocery store.

Re: Camping-related Christmas Gifts
@ Chuck: I'd say a new and easy way to make gravy is about as good a Christmas present as I'm likely to get. Thanks Chuck. I'm going to try it.
Re: Camping-related Christmas Gifts
Richard, I just saw this on rv.net - stocking stuffers for campers UNDER $20.....and I thought of you, not that you're cheap, but..........

Re: Camping-related Christmas Gifts
I didn't know I wanted a couple of those things till I saw them Donna.
Tim, good news. I found the marker light at Walmart, bought it, handed it to Jon-Jon and told him to give it to me for Christmas. I can't wait!

Re: Camping-related Christmas Gifts
@ Crawford: Either my wife will wrap it, or I'll drop it into one of my well-worn old gift bags. Ho, Ho, Ho!
I'm also looking at getting myself a new open-face fishing reel and rod, but haven't decided on exactly what I want.

Re: Camping-related Christmas Gifts
We received a package from CAMPING WORLD in the mail yesterday.. I didn't order anything.. and it was addressed to my wife.. very strange.
Re: Camping-related Christmas Gifts
@ Chuck, sounds like odds of you getting something camping related are pretty good. Since your wife, like mine, doesn't camp, odds of her ordering something for herself would seem slim. Maybe it's a sewer hose that holds it's shape pretty good.
