If you are wanting a great place to fish, hike and just relax, THIS PLACE IS FOR YOU!!
The campground has two campgrounds, right on the Potomac River with piers to catch crab. It has two campgrounds with no facilities, but does have a nice bath houses in each with water available onsite. It also has a full hookup campground (where we are now) with water, sewer and electric.
There is a long 1/4 mile causeway with fishing on each side....the western side is on the Potomac and the eastern side is on the Chesapeake Bay. It is only as wide as 4 traffic lanes - 2 for driving and one on each side for parking. There are portapots also available and fishing is allowed 24-hrs/day. In addition to the causeway, there is also a pier that juts out into the Chesapeake and is also open for 24-hrs/day with bathroom facilities available.
There is a beach area for pets on the Chesapeake, just north and south of the causeway.
Also, there is a person beach on the Potomac. It is really nice and clean (we clean it every Sat and Sun), so I know that it's clean. There are shower houses with restroom and changing facilities, picnic tables, charcoal grills available.
There is NO WIFI and spotty cell service! That's my only real complaint about the place.
Otherwise, it's a grand campground and I really think Dar and Dave would LOVE it. It's 8 hours from our place, so I guess you would have to add another couple of hours, but when we came up, we did it in 2 days.
It is close to the Calvert Cliffs - we have gone there twice to look for shark teeth and fossils. If you have never heard of it, google it. It's a fabulous place.
We are also about 2 hours from Annapolis and DC. We could easily have done a day trip up there, but decided against it.
We are currently sitting at a seafood restaurant overlooking the bay and it has WIFI. Waiting on dinner, typing on the computer.
Heading home on Sunday - 2 more days.....then we will be back to Natural Tunnel for the month of August.
Hope to see several of you there. I know Helmsley plans to come up the 2nd or 3rd weekend.
