Okay, I am sorry for posting Virginia Campgrounds.. however, we have some real jewels here right outside of Tennessee. I live a few thousand feet from the VA State line, so they are close for me..

Hungry Mother ...

We have not camped here yet. However, we have checked it out on multiple occasions.

It is a really nice State Park. They have cabins and an onsite restaurant that we have not tried yet. They also have boat rentals and a conference center.

One great thing about this park is the lake with a sand beach and a diving board. It has hiking trails. It has playgrounds. There are alot of ranger led activities as well.

There are 3 loops inside the park. I believe that b is the most popular. Some sites fit campers up to 35'. However, I have heard that it can be quite a challenge to get into the sites. The sites have electric and water and they are $25.00 per night.

There is also a campground directly outside of the park called Camp Burson. It has full hookups. It is $28.00 per night.

The area is really beautiful here with lots of activities.

I will get pictures of the loops and campsites the next time we go that direction.

here is a link to some info...

I went to webshots and put in Hungry Mother State Park. Here is a link to a picture of a campsite. It is on a creek...

Actually that webshots album has some good pics of the campgrounds and the lake...

Happy Camper Rating... 2 thumbs up

No problem posting reviews of campgrounds in any state.. We may never visit some of them as a group.. but who knows. Any reviews are still handy when individuals plan vacations, etc.

Hungry Mother State Park Empty Thank you...

Post  Paul & Amy Wed Jan 06, 2010 11:06 pm

This is great. At Christmas my brothers and I were talking about Camping in a place that would have cabins and campers. My father will be turning 90 and we are wanting to celebrate it camping; the love that he has given us. The only thing is my Dad doesn't own a camper anymore/nor does one of my brothers. My other brother said he has read on this campground and would love to attend.

Does anyone know if they have a cabin that rents that would take 2 little dogs my Dad owns.

My one brother in PA will be driving down and my other brother/Dad will be driving up. It is closer for us; but I am the baby sister and they don't want me driving far even though I have a husband that drives.

Any information, pictures, etc. I would love to have.

Hi Amy.

I am checking into the pets in cabins. So far, I have found this

http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state_parks/pets.shtml

Okay, I went in to reserveamerica.com like I was making a cabin reservation and it says domestic pets ARE allowed : )

I need to get out my two old laptops and see if I have any pictures from Hungry Mother on them. If so, I will get some to you. And, once it gets warm, I will go and get some pictures for you.

If you go to www.webshots.com and put in Hungry Mother State Park, you can find some albums there.

It is a great park!

My wife, who doesn't camp but I love her anyway, loves the cabins up at Roan Mountain State Park, and they have a nice campground.

I always wanted to check out the inside of the cabins at Roan.. I bet they are nice. We love Roan. It is the first place we ever camped. I was going to suggest Roan. However, it is really really hard to get a site in the campground. We gave up trying. However, we plan on getting there someway this coming season.

Your welcome Amy. As soon as it gets warmer, I will try and take a drive there and get more pictures. It's around 50 miles from there to my place. There is a place near there that has the best shakes. It seems to have quite a "following"

I think you will like the park!

Hungry Mother State Park Empty Hungry Mothers

Post  Paul & Amy Fri Feb 05, 2010 4:23 pm

Wow,

Called Hungry Mothers today because I could get a handle on the cabins/camping sites etc.

You can reserve a site but that one is not necessarily the one you are going to get. (for me, I need side by side for my oldest brother to camp next too). It is first come first serve.

PETS: For camping sites $5.25 per dog per night (not of my money) and the Cabins are $10.25 per cabin per night.

So, needless to say, I am not camping there as it would be around $21 extra a night for me.....Yikes....

Looks like I will be headed that way on Aug 10th for about 4 days. I haven't camped there in about 20 yrs and at that time it was in a tent. Looking forward to it. Praying for good weather.

Maybe the daily rains will be done by then, and a cool front will breeze through.

Hungry Mother State Park Empty Just got back from Hungry Mother

Post  Familyman68 Mon Aug 27, 2012 9:51 am

Hello All,

The family and I camped at Camp Burson at Hungry Mother this weekend. The park is well worth the trip. The kids had a blast at the beach, we also went hiking on the trails and rented canoes for half a day. They have 4 campgrounds at the park, campground A for me at least is too close to a county road that is outside the park. Campground B looked nice it had a stream flowing through it and was inside the park, Campground C is for tents only so I didn't make it over there. Camp Burson is a mile outside of the park entrance just on the edge of the lake, but has a trail leading to the park. The showers and restrooms were in new condition. The spaces were large and had plenty of grassy area between them. The spots were groomed when we got there and all were level with pea gravel. You even get a separate paved parking spot. The campground office / store is open till 9 each night and had just about anything you could have forgot, if they didn't have something there is a Walmart and a Ingles just up the road about 5 miles. The staff was freindly. Firewood was $5 for 9 logs which lasted us all weekend. When you check in they give you a car pass to the park and swimming passes for the whole family. I really can't find one negative thing to say about Camp Burson or Hungry Mother. Its a great place to bring the family and we are definatly going back. I'd post some pictures, but don't know how.
