RV Extension Cord Empty RV Extension Cord

Post  Richard Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:56 pm

I've had a couple of times now when I had trouble with my power cord either barely reaching the the electrical post, or not reaching at all (Butch saved me by loaning me a 30-am extension cord). I have 30 amp. I need a 30-Amp Extension Cord of my very own.

A 25 ft 30 amp extension cord needs to be 10 gauge. I've got some 6 gauge wire that would be way more than sufficient. The problem is that the ends (plug and socket) for the wire are too expensive. By the time I buy ends that will work, I could likely go ahead and buy a ready-made cord.

While Camping World has one ready-made for $50, Adventure RV in Sevierville (on Newport Hwy) shows a 25-foot 30-AMP cord online for $26. The quality wouldn't have to be great at all, as it would rarely be used. Has anyone bought from Adventure RV? Are their online prices available in the store? I'd like to avoid the shipping, which they figure at $13. Question Question Question

I believe adventure rv is mail order only..Carolyn delievers to the warehouse, its not a storefront kinda place. Their prices seem very good, I have their large catalog..but when you factor in shipping costs its about the same as campingworld ect.I wish we could order from them then pick it up at the warehouse but I dont believe thats an option.

I made one when I remodeled that old pop-up. I didn't think it was that expensive, especially if you already own the wire.

I bought one that I use to keep my unit plugged in at home.. Then I throw it in the camper when I leave in case I need it at the CG. I think I bought it at WALMART. Not sure how much. Seems like $30-$40.

Alan, a homemade one would certainly fit my style. The 6-gauge wire is a bit stiff and heavy. The standard ends (made for 10-gauge wife) might not even work.

Chuck, I'm going to look at Wal-Mart. I'm surprised to learn they carry them.

Kim, The shipping was the thing for me too. It was gonna cost $13 to ship a $25 cord. It would indeed bring them up to the price Dave mentioned on Amazon. It's too bad they don't have "pickup" at the warehouse, as I'll be passing close by there on Monday.

I believe that your right Chuck. I think I saw a 30amp extension in my local Walmart. Not sure of the price though.

Not sure if you can buy stuff directly from them. They have 2 different web sites. One is a dot com, the other is a dot net. Both sites give you the same street address.

The dot com site is selling slide-in truck campers, the net site, is selling the parts.

Thanks for the business hours Tim. I'll have to try to rush things along Monday, if practical.

RV Extension Cord Empty Adventure Rv

Post  gwtriker Mon Feb 21, 2011 6:24 pm

Last year, I bougt something from Adventure RV that I picked up at their warehouse. I spoke to them on the phone telling them I'd be in the area ... we set a time (to make sure someone was there) and I picked up my item with no problem

Thanks Art, It was late when I went by there last night, but I may be over that way again tomorrow. I'm checking on Wal Mart today, if Wal Mart doesn't have one for $30 or so, I'll give Adventure RV a call to arrange a pickup.

It's still hard to believe that I'm buying something new that I coule hobble together for only a little more than the cost of a new one. The homemade version would go so well with my camper's patchwork theme. Perhaps I should have named Miss Danger "Patches". After all, she's more patches than original.

It's not as hard to believe as you think. If Richard gets something on his mind, he usually does it. Very Happy

Chuck, I read your post and went to Lowes, just to make sure that I really wanted to buy a new cord instead of the various parts. I'm still aiming for the new cord. Our WalMart didn't have any. They have dramatically cut their RV and camping selection.

Richard, the Walmart in Colonial Heights (Kingsport) has a pretty good RV section. That is where I purchased my patio rug. If you are over that way, check them out.

Well, the Wal-marty in Eufaula, AL had the cord for $41.95. I didn't buy it. Instead I bought a female 15-amp to male 30-amp adapter for $8.95. I've got a 12-guage extension cord already made up for camp driveway that has a 15-amp male plug and a 30-amp female end. Together, they'll do for what I'm wanting. I just won't run the AC and the microwave (or toaster oven) at the same time when I'm hooked up that way. Problem solved, and in a way that respect's Miss Danger's character.

New parts still not in.
