RV Awning - keeping it clean.
I am tired of having to wash and scrub the awning every few trips. I don't roll the awning up wet.. without un-rolling when getting home to let it air out. But, when it rains,.. water gets in the rolled up awning while the camper sets in the driveway. Then the sun comes out and I am guessing the mildew process begins.
I just cleaned the awning again.. and have decided to try and keep it unrolled while at home. Or at least un-roll it a few days a week.. especially if we get a rain shower.
Any other ideas on keeping an awning fairly clean between camping trips. I know I may have to wash off a few bird droppings,.. etc.. but I am talking about the water streaks across the awning that require a complete scrubbing.

P.S. -.. I have be careful about leaving the awning out while I am working. If extreme windy conditions are predicted.. I can't leave it out. Brenda wouldn't have a clue about how to roll it up in an emergency.

I don't know how to keep it clean, Chuck, but a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser cleans it really easily. I bought a MCME mop to use on ours.
Re: RV Awning - keeping it clean.
I'm not familiar with the concept of a clean awning. Expecially cleaning it. If I cleaned it, the scrubbing and soap might weaken the duct tape that holds mine together, or am I just being too cautious?
Re: RV Awning - keeping it clean.
No that's probably. A really good idea !! The dirt will help the duct tape to hold better!!
Re: RV Awning - keeping it clean.
I have heard others talk about the magic eraser. I haven't had any problems cleaning it.. it always comes out looking great! I use a mixture of hot water, bleach and dawn dish washing liquid. I use a swimming pool brush with the expandable pole.
I am mostly, now.. looking at ways to keep it clean between trips

Don't wash the duct tape, or you'll have more repairs to make.

Chuck, we have the same problem and washing the awning before leaving home is the only thing I can do. I haven't tried the MCME mop or the eraser on ours. I may give that a try this weekend.

Darlene.. I really think the secret is keeping it open.. and not letting water stay rolled up for more than a day.
Re: RV Awning - keeping it clean.
I think you may have the answer there Chuck. Just let it dry out after it has rained on it.

Chuck's camper looks even better (by comparison) when I camp next to him with my rustic PUP.

Re: RV Awning - keeping it clean.
Chuck, cleaned the awning and camper today and used the magic eraser mop and it worked great. I got two small ones to work around small places. After I finished I thought maybe if the wax the awning will that help with keeping it clean.
So tomorrow since I will be home from work I am going to wax the awning and see what it looks like before the RP trip. That will give me two weeks rolled up, so that is my plan, we'll see how that works.

Re: RV Awning - keeping it clean.
We broke down and cleaned our TT today....took all day long. Started about 9:30 and worked til 11:00. Then it got too hot, so we took a 5 hour break, then started again at 4:00. Finished up about 7:30, then figured since we were at it, we would clean our TT rug, the cleaned the rug on our porch, then since we were at it, we cleaned the deck and walkway. Shew, I'm tired!!!
Gotta clean the INSIDE of the TT tomorrow, get all our extra stuff that we took on vacation out of there and back into the house.
