Camper Parking Spot
I used to keep my camper on the lower end of my yard.. next to the driveway and carport.. that's where I like it. However,.. it is the "low point" in the yard. A big portion of my yard holds water.. and this area will stay moist and soft for several days after a good rain. One time, last year.. I had to put the truck in 4 wheel drive to get the camper out for a trip. Then when I returned (it had rained more).. I foolishly tried to put the camper back in the same spot. Almost got it stuck.. and left some pretty good ruts in the yard.. it was a mess.
So.. since late last year the camper has been on the other side of the house.. on a high point in the yard. It stays pretty dry there.. but I don't like that location for the RV. It's further from the house, it blocks the view of a pretty part of the yard,.. and I have to raise the front.. way up high (as far as possible) to get it front to back level.
So.. I have been planning a new parking space.. back in the low point of the yard. I have purchased railroad ties,.. weed/grass blocking ground cover and ordered 10 tons of gravel.
Working on it a little today.. gravel is coming Monday. I will let you know how it goes.

Re: Camper Parking Spot
I know.. why are you building a parking spot.. if you are selling your camper?
I still want the space for extra vehicle parking.. even if I don't have a camper. I may not get anyone to pay my asking price. I may get another camper in a few years. and,.. I needed a project to do.. since I am not camping this weekend.

My neighbor has a simalar setup. He even ran a underground electric outlet to his spot.

I may add the electric box later.. not sure. If I do.. I think I will have a 30amp box like the CGs.. so I can run the AC in the camper.
Re: Camper Parking Spot
Hey Chuck, be sure to post pix when you get it worked out. If you get yoru asking price, does that mean you'll be bunking in with us on the camping trips? You'll certainly be familiar with lots of the accessories in my camper.
Re: Camper Parking Spot
I have all the rail road ties in place.. and the ground cover down.. They are gonna deliver the gravel Monday at noon. My space is 12 feet wide and about 50 feet long. I have some photos of the work in progress.. I'll post later tonight .
by the way.. have you ever moved around a bunch of railroad ties???

Don't forget the 10 tons of rock...I spread out 22tons in my new driveway back in 03'. I definitely know what THAT feels like.

A few pictures of my parking space modification:
This is where my camper sets now. It actually doesn't look too bad in the photo.. but the front jack is all the way up.. plus the 8.5 inch jack support cone.
Just starting to position railroad ties in new area:
Ties in position:
Ground cover down... now just waiting for gravel:

Nice looking job Chuck.
Can't wait to see it with the gravel and your trailer parked there.

Re: Camper Parking Spot
Chuck, are you going to have enough gravel to place under your shed where your truck is parked. I think it would look good.

Re: Camper Parking Spot
there is gravel already under the carport.. it's just been there awhile. I am gonna have him dump in the new spot first.. then see what I have left over. I think I will have some to freshen up the area where I park my truck. The other half under the carport is concrete (the original driveway).
the gravel should be here in an hour or so.

Re: Camper Parking Spot
I can't believe you are hauling around RR Ties and shoveling gravel and didn't let me come help. Tim says I'm pretty good at shoveling ****. I should be able to do gravel as well.
It looks good Chuck.

Re: Camper Parking Spot

Re: Camper Parking Spot
the gravel is here. I should have ordered more than 10 ton.. but it will work for the camper space. I just dont have any extra for under my carport.
Its a BIG job spreading this stuff. Going to take a few days.. especially since I am working 12 hour shifts all week.

Re: Camper Parking Spot
I would rent a bob-cat to spread out that much gravel

Re: Camper Parking Spot
Well.. it is kinda spread out.. the dump truck driver did the best he could. But it still needs some evening out.. Plenty of shovel fulls will need to be moved.

Re: Camper Parking Spot
Here's where I am.. as of this afternoon.. It actually looks better in the picture.. than it really is. The gravel is way too deep in the middle.. and too shallow on the edges.. so plenty of work to do. Hope to get it finished tomorrow or Wednesday.
Re: Camper Parking Spot
Looks good Chuck. I'm sure you'll get it spread out eventually.

Re: Camper Parking Spot
My brother in law came by this afternoon.. and helped finish the gravel spreading.. He did a great job! It started raining just as the job was finished.. so thats perfect. The rain will help the crush and run gravel harden. I will probably get a picture tomorrow.. and will pull the camper over later this week.
Re: Camper Parking Spot
Glad to hear that you got the spot finished. It's always nice to have some help on big projects.
