Water Pump Converter kit Empty Water Pump Converter kit

Does your camper have a water pump converter.. already installed? It probably does. It's a pretty inexpensive option.. so most campers already have them.

Its the little "T" valve and hose that attaches between the fresh water tank and the water pump. When you winterize.. you can turn run the extra piece of hose down into a gallon of anti-freeze, turn the valve.. and pump the liquid into your water lines. If you don't have the kit already installed.. you either have to put enough antifreeze in the fresh water tank (maybe 5 or 6 gallons) to get the pump to pull it through the lines.. or buy the kit and install yourself.

kit looks like this:

My previous camper had this already installed.. but my present camper (2010 WILDWOOD 22RB) does not. Unfortunately.. the water pump in my camper is hard to access. It's under the queen bed, all the way in the front.. and on the far backside of the camper. I kinda took the bed apart and could see it.. but couldn't get to it to remove any lines, much less get a gallon of antifreeze in there. In order to winterize (quickly) before the extreme cold this weekend... I had to put AF in the fresh water tank and pump it through. It ended up taking about 6 gallons just to get the AF pumping.

I have since found that I can access the water pump by removing a bottom panel (four wood screws) in the outside storage compartment. I ordered a CAMCO PUMP CONVERTER KIT.. and will install for future use. It should make the winterizing job cheaper and faster. I think I will be able to get by with only 2 gallons of antifreeze once the converter is in place.

My first trailer didn't have this installed and I purchased this. It was a easy install.

If you have a small compressor blow out lines forget about the pink stuff at 4.50 a gal and flushing to get taste of it out of lines. also the kit not needed another savings. Very Happy Been using air in pop ups,TT,coaches for thirty plus years never had frozen air yet. Rolling Eyes

don't have an air compressor.. and if I did blow out the lines.. I would probably put pink stuff in as well. Only takes about 2 minutes to get the antifreeze out of the lines.. not a big deal.

Chuck, I have some of the pink stuff I use in the drains. I use Crawford's blow-out method on my supply side water lines and it sure works for me. I do it with a little 12-volt tire compresser. I had to make a way to connect it to the waterline, but hey, riggint that up was right up my alley.

I use that system on my trailer as well. I have a small compressor that was made for tire inflation. I hook it up and work each faucet open and closed to remove the water. I can't forget the outside shower!! Then pink in all the traps and holding tanks.

Wildfire hates having it's tank pinked! I just do the drain hose.

Pink is really not Wildfire's color at all.

I installed the pump converter kit Saturday.. As usual.. any "easy" project offers it's challenges.

First.. I had to run to ACE HARDWARE to get a longer hose. Because of the position of the water pump in my camper, the piece, included with the kit.. just wasn't long enough.

then.. the people who built this RV must have looked for the smallest, most hard to get to place, to place the water pump. I had to do most of the work with one hand. I could only fit my upper body and one arm at a time through the small storage door opening.

then.. the pump was mounted at an angle that prohibited attaching the tri-valve to the inlet side.. so I had to remove all the mounting screws and turn the angle of the pump.

Anyway... it's done now and should save me a considerable amount of time when winterizing.. and 2 gallons, or less, of antifreeze should do the job.

As far as blowing out the lines or adding pink stuff (antifreeze).. everyone should do what they want (and they will). I have never owned any kind of air compressor.. so I started out using the antifreeze method.. and it works for me.

I doubt Chuck would post such a vid, because a lot would have to be bleeped out.
