yes.. I haven't folded it up or down myself.. but have seen the set up (and take down) in several videos. It seems to take about a minute to do it.. once you know what you are doing. Of course there would be other factors in setting up.. leveling, etc.. but looks fairly simple.

Way too small for me, but for one person, that would be "da' bomb"!

Our Rockwood was built well, has held up well, even with 2 or 10 kids in it jumping around.

I hope you can find one....would like to see you camping with us again.

its a tough decision.. want to make sure what i want.. don't wanna have buyers remorse.

Really leaning towards making my camping more simple:
Warm, dry place.. cool when I need it.
Comfy bed.
Electric
Fast easy set up
Fast easy tear down
Easy towing
cable TV hook up
No rubber roof
Limited caulking.
Beer and a few snacks
Room for another person if I want a guest.

On the down side.. I really liked my own private shower.. but I think the trade off will be ok .. for all the other things I like in the small unit. These A-FRAMES do have a hot water heater.. so I could easily do the wash rag bath in the camper.

Who knows.. something else may come along.. I kinda like shoppng too.

Ya know, Chuck....you just described our little HTT. It was really easy to tow, had it's own bathroom/shower, could sleep up to 6, but was comfy for 2; had cable TV, and all the other things you mentioned, including a small usable little kitchen.

When it was just the 2 of us, we usually didn't put the bunk out on the back end unless we had company. I even left the cushions for it at home most of the time. If we were somewhere for over a few days, we would put it out and use the bunk as storage for clothes, extra food, blankets, whatever.

It had the U-shaped dinette and we kept the table up most of the time outside, but just used the dinette as a couch. We did use the king bed that was up front and we didn't both with taking the sheets off, etc. I had a large NEAT SHEET (waterproof) that I would spread across the entire bed, tuck under, then put the bed up like it was supposed to be. It worked great - 3 minute setup/takedown on the bed.

If we were travelling, we didn't open the bunk end up, we would just sleep on the dinette. It was easy to heat/cool that way.

Anyway, something to think about.

I wonder if anyone rents those. It sure would be a good investment to try it before you buy it. I'd hate to see you go through the pop-up dislike again.

Seriously considered a Hybrid.. and I think they are pretty cool camping. However.. I would probably do a small TT before a HTT. With a HTT I would have pretty much the same maintenance as a TT.. rubber roof, plumbing.. plus more opportunitues for leaks.

I'm pretty sure I couldn't go back to not having my own shower / toilet.

The plus side is it would be super easy to store.

Have you looked at the Little Guy teardrops?

I don't know why I didn't think about this. There is a guy outside of Kingsport that is making the teardrop campers. He was at Natural Tunnel while I was camphosting and I got the complete tour. His was covered with wood and looked like a big log. I actually got in there and sat on the bed. It was tiny.

A little later on, a buddy of his came camping in his teardrop and it was much larger. It had a kingsize bed, fireplace, full kitchen (outside) and there was much more room in it.

I think he said they ran about $4500, but kinda depended on what you wanted. I know he had them on ebay, so I will see if I can find them/him.

Something else you might want to look at - a neighbor of ours has an old SCAMP and it is about the smallest little self-contained camper I have ever seen. All fiberglass, so you wouldn't have to worry about the roof of any leaks.

Donna, "Fireplace" did I read that correctly? Please explain. Is that a fire ring that you toss on the ground?

Look up at Donna's post. She said "A little later on, a buddy of his came camping in his teardrop and it was much larger. It had a kingsize bed, fireplace, full kitchen (outside) and there was much more room in it."

Yeah, in the first one, it was one of those little electric ones. Now, in the 2nd trailer, it was a real fireplace (real tiny) insert with glass door and had a flue and chimney pipe outside, it was a black metal chimney stack. It was cute, but he said 1 of those little fire logs would run you out of there.

Chuck, both of them did have AC. They used a residential type and it was mounted on the front next to the hitch.

Chuck, I just watched the video of the Rockwood Hardside A-shape PUP again. It really looks like the best of both worlds, especially having true hard sides once you are set up. The one we watched on one of the club trips was amazing. The old guy that had it was dropped and ready to roll within minutes of starting.

I only have one concern, and it's a selfish one on my part. I kinda like sitting under your awning (in my chair that is just like yours) while you play guitar. I didn't see an awning, and can't imagine how there could be one. Does this mean music right out under the stars? In front of God and everybody that might be hovering around up there? If so, I'll try to make the adjustment. I'd simply invite you to sit and play under my awning, but you are smarter than to sit that close to Miss Danger.

Here is one with an awning. It's probably costly, but I don't know.

Can't get the pic to show up - someone that can do it, go ahead.

thats actually a pretty fair price.. I have seen it on ebay before. I have read that those awnings (for the AFRAME) are a pian in the a$$.. but who knows.

If I ever purchased one of these campers.. I would probably get an EZ-UP.. or something similar.. Or sit under someone elses awning.

I agree totally, you can take the EZ UP down to the beach or place it over the picnic table. For about 100 bucks you can have one in the color of your choice. There are so many uses for the EZ UP

If you get the EZ up, whichever brand, don't make the mistake I did. I got the 8x8. The 10x10 is soooo much nicer, and you can get solid or screen sides if you like. Again Chuck, if you feel like living on the edge, you are always welcome under Miss Danger's awning.

I've heard of problems with water ponding on EZ-ups and eventually pulling the canvas back over the frame and soaking the underneath items. I avoid this by using the big plastic squeeze clamps to hold the awning tight. With it tight, the water rolls off and doesn't pond.

We had an EZ up when they first came out, oh about 12-13 years ago. It lasted until 2 years ago, even after being run over by a truck!!!!

It did pond on it badly, but I purchased 4 hulahoops (sp?) and rammed them up between the material and the metal frame. It kept the material stretched taut enough that water wouldn't pond.

They also came in handy on occasion when we were feeling spunky and we would get them out and have a hulahoop contest!!!! lol!
