Boating while camping

Post  Richard on Tue Dec 22, 2009 6:48 pm

Do you ever bring a boat when you camp. I have a canoe with pontoon extensions that I take sometimes in the summer. Fits nicely on top of the suburban. I need a bike rack for the PUP, but alas, funds are short, and they seem way overpriced. How can the rack cost more than the bikes.

I do not have a boat to bring camping.

But c'mon Richard, With all of your experience with mod and repairs, and you can't come up with a rack mod for your bikes? Surely a couple of screw hooks and some 2 x 4's bolted right into the back of the suburban or Miss Danger and away you go!!!

I agree, building a bike rack of your own is definately your style, and makes for interesting conversation

Dave, your right. With all the mods Richard has done a bike rack should be a piece of cake. I'm sure there are plenty of 2x4's laying around his garage. Razz

You know, I'd definately be better off if I put Caroline in charge of the project. She was giving me grief because I unhooked the propane tank, filled it and hooked it back up without her supervision. (She was right of course, I can't get the threaded rod back through the two holes in the bottom of the tank and the two holes in the support on the tounge. This will likely lead to yet another Mod.

We want to camp and boat. We just haven't yet. I have never towed anything. And, due to two ruptured discs in my neck, I have limited range of motion in my neck. I really can't turn my neck much. So, I really don't want to tow the boat anywhere.

However, we plan to this summer. We will stay at Observation Knob and we live close enough to it that Craig can take the camper and then go back for the boat.

Richard, maybe we will catch you down there this next summer.

I'd say chances are good. I have friends that were seasonal this year.

Just put you a hitch on the back of your trailor and tow them both at the same time. I'm sure Richard could make this mod for you. Rolling Eyes

Cool, you should know that it's illegal to tow double...even in Tennessee...

It's not illegal. I have the endorsement on my license to prove it. I can pull doubles or triples.

Often heard back in South Alabama, "Well, Richard thinks he's going to water ski. Actually we are going trolling for gators."
