Florida Vacation Trip Empty Florida Vacation Trip

Let me start by saying that things I knew growing up are not the same today. Examples: I went into a sporting goods store and they had a bunch of colored plastic hoops for sale at $49.99 each. They called them exercise loops .... we called them hula-hoops which sold for $.99 each. We had rubber thinks we wore on feet for going to the beach. We called them zories or thongs - sold for 49 cents.  Shoe store here calls them flip-flops for sale at $24.99.

Now my story:  last Christmas vacation, my wife and I decided to take our 13 and 15 year old granddaughters with us to Florida.  Weeks before the trip, we had the girls over to the house and started to put together a list of things they needed to pack for the trip: beach towels - the girls they said have them; sun screen - the girls said they have it; bathing suit cover ups - the girls said they have them; thongs to wear on the beach - this got a funny look from the girls.

Grandma told the girls that thongs were ideal to wear on the beach in that if you got sand on them, you just go into the water, take them off and rinse them in the surf and put them back on. She told them the only problem with thongs was that if too much sand got on them, you could get blisters or sore spots.  This really got a look from the girls and they asked to be excused for a few minutes.

When they came back, they asked grandma if for this trip it would be okay if she and they didn't wear thongs.  Grandma said okay - they didn't have to wear them. BUT there would be no way they would be able to get me from wearing mine!
