Panther Creek State Park Empty Panther Creek State Park

Post  Darcamper Thu Jan 10, 2013 11:31 pm

Anyone stayed at Panthers Creek State Park. I was looking at maybe heading that way around April or May. Is it full most of the time and how about the camp sites; fair?

Panther Creek State Park Empty Re: Panther Creek State Park

I have stayed at panther creeks a few times since its so close to my house. Its a nice campground..although its hard to get a spot or WAS before the reservation system....The park itself is very large with alot of hiking trails. There is no lake access though unless you drive down to the boat access area which is about 1/2mile or so from the parks entrance. The Park has a playground away from the camping area. The sites are varied..some bigger than others..some close to one another, most with shade of some kind though. Some of the campsites are on a loop with a large area of grass in the middle of the loop (like cove lake)..some are against the hillside.. If you drive up to the top of the ridge past the camping area theirs a great view of cherokee lake from way above...you can almost see forever up there...also their are large covered pavillions with tables for family picnics.there is no store. Theres also a small creek at the base of the park (not a fishing creek) The only drawback to the park IMO is no lake access to fish or swim unless you want to drive. The park is close to morristown so running to the supermarket is close. There usually is a ton of deer up at the park in the pastures before you get to the camping area.

Actually.. thinking about a "VC Group Camp Out" at Panther Creek this season.. what do you think? We would probably need to make reservations pretty soon.

I took a drive up to Panther Creek SP (Saturday 2/23) to check it out.. From Clinton it took about an hour and 10 mins.. probably be an hour and a half towing the camper (I don't drive as fast a Dave Kral). This is a nice state park. The campground was nice and clean. The CG sets kind of on a hillside.. but most all sites were pretty level.. only a few had slight grades backing in. Just about every site offered a level area for your awning mat and pic nic table area. I made a few brief videos of the sites I liked best,.. and one video of the overlook.. it is really a breath taking view.. and would be even more beautiful when the lake levels are up.

Sites 25, 27. 29, 31, 33, 35, 37 and 35

Campsite #38 and #40

Campsite #32 and #34

Campsite #2 and #4.
